Geoffrey Carolan

Mr Carolan is currently a consultant specialising in international telecom mergers, acquisitions, disposals and corporate restructurings as well as shareholder and joint venture agreements. His recent successful transactions include the disposal of Partner Communications in Israel at a valuation of US$2.8 billion, the disposal of Hutchison Telecommunications Argentina and the management buyout of a Christchurch Scaffolding firm.

For the previous nine years Mr Carolan worked as General Counsel for the Indian Mobile telephone business of listed Hong Kong conglomerate, Hutchison Whampoa. He was a member of the board of directors of all of Hutchison Whampoa’s companies in India and in the position of General Counsel he specialised in mergers, acquisitions, shareholder rights and disputes, banking and corporate finance.
During this period these businesses grew from 100,000 subscribers to over 34 million and in May 2007 were sold to Vodafone at an enterprise valuation of over US$18 billion.

Prior to working in India, Mr Carolan was in private practice with Stevenson Wong & Co in Hong Kong and Russell McVeagh McKenzie Bartlet & Co in Auckland, concentrated in corporate and commercial law as well as banking and finance law.

Mr Carolan has a LLB from Canterbury University and has been admitted to practice law in New Zealand and Hong Kong.
